The Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle offers a multi-specialty clinic for patients and their family members with Tuberous sclerosis Complex (TSC). This clinic provides expertise in adult and paediatric nephrology, neurology and clinical genetics and will involve specialists in Respiratory, Dermatology, Cardiology and Paediatric Neurology as required.
Great North Children’s Hospital has recently been modernised with the introduction of a range of disease-specific clinics. As part of this service development, a three-monthly TSC Specialist Clinic has been established.
Within a friendly out patient environment a the RVI and Great North Children’s Hospital clinicians see children, adults and their families from across the North East of England referred in by their GP or specialists, including families before their child is born.
This clinic is staffed by a Consultant Nephrologist with an interest in renal genetics (Professor John Sayer, Professor of Renal Medicine), a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist (Dr Yincent Tse), a neurologist (Dr Rhys Thomas) and a Clinical Geneticist (Dr Alex Henderson).
This enables TSC patients and other family members who wish to attend to be seen together for a detailed discussion about the diagnosis, implications, monitoring and treatment of their disease.
This clinic is held in the Paediatric outpatient department, Great North Children’s Hospital, RVI, Newcastle NE1 4LP.
