'It was my daughter Charlotte's idea,' says Nick Budinger, father of two from Burntwood in Staffordshire.
'She wanted to for something for her big sister, Olivia, who is 17 and has TSC.'
Keen cyclist Nick had to curb Charlotte's enthusiasm and in the end decided to do a sponsored coast to coast cycle ride from Workington on the West coast, across the Lake District, and ending up in Tynemouth on the East coast. A cool 150 miles over four days, starting on Wednesday May 31 and finishing on Saturday June 3.
Nick, 48, and Charlotte, 11, were also joined by Charlotte's cousin, 23-year-old Katie. Katie had not ridden a bike since she was younger than Charlotte, so it was time for Nick to get them training earning himself the nickname “Nasty Nick”.
The ride across the Pennines went without a hitch. Katie said “Before the ride I was really determined and couldn't wait to complete it. During the ride however, I couldn't believe how difficult it was but all I knew was that I would complete it.
"Now looking back it's the proudest thing I have ever achieved and I now know you can do anything you want to if you just put your mind to it and work hard!”
Charlotte was just happy that the ride was finally happening, but felt nervous in case she needed to quit, oh and she got very bored of all the photos!
Nick said “I was so proud of both the girls, they both pushed themselves so hard. Charlotte and her determination not to put a foot down on any hill and Katie for pushing herself harder than she thought she could."
Charlotte, Nick and Katie were thrilled to discover that they had raised no less than £1,993 for the TSA through their Just Giving page HERE
